A who's who of WSOR power |
Description: |
From left, we have 4170, the class unit of what were the original six ex-CRIP SD40-2s acquired by the railroad in the early 2000s (then numbered 4001). It has been recently repainted into a special 40th Anniversary scheme. Then is 4219, ex-CP and the only red and gray unit with a low headlight. 6334 is one of the two Helm lease units (6313 is coupled behind it) than has been on the property since 2017. 4181, trailing the five-unit power move, is ex-BN and one of the last units acquired by the railroad in the Gardner era. 3947, facing off with the lead unit of the power move on the same track, is the first "new" unit brought on to the property under Watco ownership. |

Target sighted! |
Description: |
I've been trying to find 4170 since it was released following its 40th Anniversary repaint last month. It will later be added to T004's train, although unfortunately not leading. |

40 Years Safely Serving Our Communities With Pride |
Description: |
I really like this 40th Anniversary scheme and really wanted to catch it as soon as I saw the first photos of it. Notable features are the gray roof, Watco logos on the sides and end of the long hood, and white stripes on the rear plow. Notably lacking (and a telltale sign that this wasn't done at Horicon) are the "YOU HAVE THE RIGHT AND THE OBLIGATION TO WORK SAFELY" notices that were above the steps on all red and gray repaints prior to this and 4197. |

Going-away shot |
Description: |
Of course would rather it was leading, but we can still see the straight striping (rather like NS' "Catfish Whiskers") and red goose logo (only the second one on the roster with that, after 4219) on the short hood. Kind of unusual for WSOR units to have the horn midway along the long hood as well, most have it mounted on top of the cab. |

Trouble with the South Wye |
Description: |
I'd see this trio leave the Janesville yard with 4181 leading and 40th Anniversary 4170 trailing. Surprisingly, this was apparently T004. Not sure what they were doing light power in the Janesville yard, having left their train behind at Milton and now going to get it. Due to catching every single red light possible, I wasn't able to get ahead of them again until I found them stopped here. The radio-controlled power switch at the south end of the wye wasn't responding to their tones, and it would cost them about an hour while a maintainer came to sort it out. |

WAMX 4170 from the dog park |
Description: |
I was frustrated by the inability to get a closer shot of WAMX 4170's short hood end bathed in sunlight, suspecting (correctly) that the clouds would build back in by the time the wye switch problems were sorted and the train on the move again. A careful study of Google Maps aerial view revealed the existence of a public dog park just south of the substation next to the switch. I picked my way through the melting, but still deep snow and poop piles to the northeast corner of the fence. The view it affords isn't stellar, still partially obstructed by a hill and the vegetation on it, but better than nothing. This is after I had trudged back to my car to retrieve my stepladder for some additional elevation. |

Invasion of the ex-UP SD60Ms |
Description: |
"All your roundhouse are belong to us"...6024, 6026 (and a tiny bit of 6025) are visible. The one in the roundhouse at right does not appear to have a number on the long hood end yet. The sole unit in company colors in this photo, recently repainted 40th Anniversary unit 4170 (fmr. WSOR 4001) almost looks out of place. |
