CP 3017 tied down in Lewiston Siding
Title:  CP 3017 tied down in Lewiston Siding
Description:  This westbound was idling without a crew in the siding between Portage and Wisconsin Dells, but never moved in the 2+ hours we spent further west up the line.

CP 3017 leads a light power G64 as it arrives in the CP yard
Title:  CP 3017 leads a light power G64 as it arrives in the CP yard
Description:  Last Friday I grumbled that this unit wasn't leading southbound, and it was dark by the time they departed back north for Portage. Well, the power set was wyed sometime in the intervening week, so I got my wish! This time the local is light engine and will pick up a few cars off the WSOR interchange. There's also a string of over 100 sand empties for interchange to CP sitting in their yard, but this crew will leave those be. They were eventually picked up by a solo AC4400CW which came down on Sunday the 9th.

Twice in a row
Title:  Twice in a row
Description:  After I caught this power set arriving at Madison on the M&P run the previous day, G64 makes its Saturday run to service customers on the Watertown Sub main.

G64 picks up speed along the jointed rail of the siding
Title:  G64 picks up speed along the jointed rail of the siding
Description:  Welded track in the middle is the main, jointed track in the foreground is the M&P Sub (branch line to Madison). This job typically runs to Madison M-W-F, and works the Watertown Sub T-Th-Sat.

CP 3017 leads the G64 as it crosses Ontario St. (Popenfus')
Title:  CP 3017 leads the G64 as it crosses Ontario St. (Popenfus')
Description:  The 3000-series CP GP38s (especially with their original Canadian style cab-front bells) have proven elusive in motion for me. Too bad it's not still in the Multimark (Pac-Man) paint like it was when I saw it in 2007!

G64 crew has changed ends and switches out their train for the WSOR interchange
Title:  G64 crew has changed ends and switches out their train for the WSOR interchange
Description:  CP's brief appearances on the Northside are the only non-WSOR trains that operate in Madison. MILW sucessor Soo Line used to operate the branch to Sun Prairie/Waterloo as well as across town to Middleton, but ceded more and more of that service to WSOR over the years.

Same Geep pair as Friday works the G64 M&P run...with a twist!
Title:  Same Geep pair as Friday works the G64 M&P run...with a twist!
Description:  From what I was told, the radio went bad in the 3041 so it couldn't lead. Here they've just finished up their Windsor switching and are idling while the conductor runs over to the adjacent Speedway convenience store.

Nose-to-nose Geeps blare through the Northside neighborhoods
Title:  Nose-to-nose Geeps blare through the Northside neighborhoods
Description:  Over the last decade, more and more of the WSOR's crossings that pass through downtown Madison and the residential areas on the east side have been made "quiet" (no horn) zones. Not so for the CP crossings, even though the line passes in close proximity to quite a few houses between Packers Avenue and Aberg Avenue.
