Disused ex-C&NW railroad crossing on Erie Street
In the Third Ward. Summerfest grounds to the left, swing bridge over the Milwaukee River just out of the picture to the right. When the Chicago & Northwestern abandoned and removed their passenger mainline through downtown Milwaukee, 1-2 miles of track were kept at both ends for local freight service to industries. That industrial traffic has since dried up, and the remaining portions of the line have gone out of service, albeit still in place for now. The northern end runs from Wiscona to Hampton Avenue, with photos from February 2009 elsewhere in this album.
