Old No. 1630 gets a rare summer weekend off for Diesel Days
This classy-looking 1918 Baldwin "Russian Decapod" (built for export to Russia but never sent due to the outbreak of the Russian Revolution) remained IRM's only operational steam locomotive until joined by J. Neils Co. Shay No. 5 in 2019. 1630 returned to service in May 2014 following a "1472-day" overhaul. That was the occasion for my only visit to IRM prior to Diesel Days 2022. At that time it didn't yet have the "Frisco" lettering on the cab.
