Title:  UP power, on the UP bridge, but still operating as a WSOR train
Description:  G-33 is back on UP trackage and is shoving (the locomotives are actually moving left to right) across their Rock River bridge and down to UP's yard south of town.

Gateway to Wisconsin
Title:  Gateway to Wisconsin
Description:  The two GP60s bracketing two covered hoppers trundle away. Just beyond the leftward curve in the distance, this ex-Milwaukee Road line once crossed the C&NW line which ran from Harvard (and Chicago) north to Janesville (or direct to Madison via Evansville off a split at Afton). The train will use a small remaining portion of that line to access customers at South Beloit.

YJA65 in "push-pull" configuration crosses Blackhawk Boulevard
Title:  YJA65 in "push-pull" configuration crosses Blackhawk Boulevard
Description:  Just south of the barely-marked Behr spur crossing, the "main" line's (ex-C&NW Chicago/Harvard-Janesville/Madison) crossing of Blackhawk Blvd. has four signals on the shoulders and median. Interestingly, photos from the C&NW era show there were gates here then - a rare example of crossing protection being "downgraded."

Distant Glimmer
Title:  Distant Glimmer
Description:  UP had a large number of two-bay covered hoppers stored up to their end-of-track at MP 119 south (RR east) of Brooklyn, WI on the segment of the former C&NW Chicago-Twin Cities line between Janesville and Madison. The line is out-of-service west of there through Brooklyn, then operated by Wisconsin and Southern out of Madison. They pulled these in two sections in early May, 2021. This was the second such move, of 77 cars. Unfortunately, due to work I couldn't get them on the extremely rarely used mileage west of the Landmark Co-op through the city of Evansville, catching up just as the train was coming past Landmark.

UP 1025 follows a gondola, three boxcars and sister 1145 toward Five Points and the UP yard
Title:  UP 1025 follows a gondola, three boxcars and sister 1145 toward Five Points and the UP yard
Description:  The UP's Anderson Spur is a stub of the ex-C&NW line which once ran north to Fond du Lac, abandoned beyond the 3 or 4 customers they serve near the US Highway 14 crossing. Another, larger section still exists from Fort Atkinson to Clyman Junction. Circa 2007-08 when I first took up railfanning, they shoved out with an ex-C&NW bay window caboose in the lead to work the spurs which are all trailing point to the south (RR east). It wasn't long after that they started putting a locomotive on each end instead.

UP local trundles along the tree-lined ex-R&SW
Title:  UP local trundles along the tree-lined ex-R&SW
Description:  Running back to Janesvillle after switching DeLong in South Beloit. This is a small remaining segment of the ex-Milwaukee Road Racine & Southwestern Division and one of the few if not the only segments of UP trackage in Wisconsin that is not ex-Chicago & North Western. Other portions are operated by WSOR as their Bardwell-Elkhorn branch and by CN as an industrial spur at Burlington. CP abandoned their segment from Sturtevant to Kansasville a few years ago.

Title:  Shoving into the Evonik complex
Description:  The chemical plant has been here since 1957 under various names. It took them about an hour and 20 minutes of shuffling tank cars to set out two and pull one (the one closest to the power was the same coming in and going out). There are four stub tracks within the plant, one of which is the old main.

Wasting No Time
Title:  Wasting No Time
Description:  Before 470's tail end had even cleared the switch, LTA-41 was on the move toward the junction with the Tomah Sub. Just beyond the junction point and the signal ahead of the train is the east portal of the tunnel, frustratingly JUST out of reach of being shootable from public property. With the leaves off the trees, I could just barely glimpse it from Flag Avenue.

Local Over the Arches
Title:  Local Over the Arches
Description:  This ex-C&NW stone arch bridge (there are actually five arches, one is off-camera to the left but it is obstructed by trees from the south side) is one of the real gems of southern Wisconsin railfanning. Its somewhat off-the-beaten-path location and the sporadic/sneaky nature of train traffic on the line from Harvard to Janesville, particularly westbounds in daylight, means getting a shot here requires some perseverance. I finally did so again almost 11 years after the last one (and that was badly backlit, from the north side in the morning). Now I have to come back and do it again when the sun's out! I believe this is the YJA65 job. I found them just finishing up their work in Clinton, and had plenty of time to get over here and set up.

YJA65 on the "loop" off Beloit Avenue
Title:  YJA65 on the "loop" off Beloit Avenue
Description:  It's not possible to see much detail of UP's ex-C&NW South Janesville Yard from the ground, but from the satellite view one can see there's a loop track on the west end which has a spur off it to serve Seneca Foods; crosses over one of the yard leads on a diamond, used to form one leg of a wye (the other leg is stubbed off, with the switch removed) and encircles a few stub-ended RIP tracks which pass through the area where the roundhouse and turntable used to be. Chase of this train continues in the album "UP Harvard Subdivision State Line-S. Janesville."

Description:  This local runs with power on each end to facilitate a reversal in direction at Clinton to head down the ex-Milwaukee Road R&SW Division to Beloit and South Beloit (IL). Everything but the two hoppers closest to 1145 will be dropped at Clinton. You can see from the orange conduit sticking out of the ground, preparations are underway for the replacement of the venerable searchlight signals along this portion of the line (which were themselves salvaged by C&NW from an ex-CGW line to replace the original semaphores on this line).
