A Wave From Farmer Brown
Title:  A Wave From Farmer Brown
Description:  With some "antiquing" in Photoshop, not half bad for a desperation grab shot with my phone after forgetting my DSLR in the car for this runby; and a massive gust of wind kicked up right as the train approached, sandblasting everyone with leaves and grain dust.

Nothing But Engines
Title:  Nothing But Engines
Description:  With most of the train (including a long cut of flats loaded with USMC JLTVs built at Oshkosh) set out at Milton, remainder at Anderson just north of here, T004 is just six motors light into Janesville Yard.

Saturday power move T004 fronted by one of the two (so far) repainted 60Ms
Title:  Saturday power move T004 fronted by one of the two (so far) repainted 60Ms
Description:  While I think the "horizontal" WSOR scheme as exemplified by the trailing three units of this six-pack would have looked great on the SD60Ms, this still looks better than patched UP (although "Wings & Flags" 6027 isn't half bad)!

Title:  CN 5459 with L581 is about to cross Old USH 10 and pound the "JO" diamond

Crossing the Wisconsin River where it flows out of Lake DuBay
Title:  Crossing the Wisconsin River where it flows out of Lake DuBay
Description:  Lake DuBay is a reservoir named for John Baptiste DuBay, a prominent early Wisconsin businessman/fur trader/Indian interpreter. In 1857 he was charged with murder for killing a man in a property dispute. Although acquitted, he was ruined by the ordeal and died at his homestead in Knowlton. This bridge is one of the scenic highlights of the Valley Sub, but never having chased on the line before I was too late to get more than handheld video here on the northbound trip.

Title:  L581 now southbound out of Wausau Yard after lunch and quite a change in the weather

Northbound on the ex-MILW Valley Sub, CN 5430 hammers the diamond with the ex-Soo Line Superior Sub
Title:  Northbound on the ex-MILW Valley Sub, CN 5430 hammers the diamond with the ex-Soo Line Superior Sub
Description:  Junction City is one of Wisconsin's busiest railroad hot spots. Over the course of various mergers through the years, both lines here fell under the control of Wisconsin Central LTD in the late 1980s. Their flag fell to CN in 2001. Nineteen years, 354 days elapsed between the last time I shot a train here, and this day. Those pictures are the first ones in this album. I didn't intend for it to happen, but it just kept getting kicked down the road. For some reason I had it in my head that it was a long ways away from me living in Madison, even though it's really only another hour beyond Wisconsin Dells, where I've shot CP(KC) trains on a quite regular basis over the years. The maroon and gold SD45s may be gone, but this pair of SD60s makes for a nice link back to the days when high-horsepower, spartan cab EMDs were the rule rather than the exception. I'll definitely be back again on a much shorter interval!

Lightning in a Bottle
Title:  Lightning in a Bottle
Description:  Frame grab from 4K video. CGs (cloud-to-ground lightning) had been striking to the west and north the whole time I was waiting for the train here, and I was hoping to capture something like this. A light shower had begun moments before the train arrived, and shortly the skies opened up and it poured the rest of the morning and into the early afternoon, all the way up to north of Junction City as I chased L581 toward Wausau.

Hiawatha 339 glides toward Bain Station Rd. with a B32-8WH leader
Title:  Hiawatha 339 glides toward Bain Station Rd. with a B32-8WH leader
Description:  First train I've shot this far south (RR east) on the C&M Sub since I moved out of Milwaukee ten years ago. Of the handful of times I've caught one of these on the Hiawathas, this is also the only time I've caught it on the westward end, the usual place for the powered locomotive on these trains prior to the Siemens Charger era.

Almost looks like it could be...
Title:  Almost looks like it could be...
Description:  ...a power set found idling outside any yard office in towns across Illinois and Iowa in the 1980s. Just a few subtle clues give it away, like the ditch lights on 6847, missing rear numberboards on 7009 and the cab heralds that look too good for the rest of the paint.

CP 6017 leads 2WWA starting the pull toward the yard
Title:  CP 6017 leads 2WWA starting the pull toward the yard
Description:  This unit had eluded my lens until now, although my dad caught a video of it leading a 281 way back in May, 2010 when it was still in CP Rail System "Dual Flags" paint. That scheme was badly faded then, and the locomotive would wear it for another twelve years!

Steaming for home, on the dual stone culvert over Wildcat Creek
Title:  Steaming for home, on the dual stone culvert over Wildcat Creek
Description:  They'd do one more runby at Rubicon before heading back to Hartford and rearranging the consist for display in the Auto Museum. This not being an "official" runby spot for the charter, I was essentially alone at this location (I think there was one other railfan off-camera to the right).
