L468 crew takes 3947 to grab their train while 4219 sleeps away a fine fall afternoon
Title:  L468 crew takes 3947 to grab their train while 4219 sleeps away a fine fall afternoon
Description:  In the foreground, a track gang is giving the "main" line (technically part of the Reedsburg Sub) some TLC. Both of these locomotives are Watco-era additions to the red and gray fleet (all running under WAMX reporting marks, not WSOR, since toward the end of 2016). 3947 appeared in spring 2014 in ugly patched UP yellow, and was repainted in spring 2017. 4219 arrived sometime in 2016 in the generic Watco black with yellow accents, and was repainted sometime in late 2017 or early 2018. It is an ex-CP SD40 and the only unit on the railroad with the headlight mounted on the short hood.

L468 leaves the yard, easing into the curve and crossing Johnson Street
Title:  L468 leaves the yard, easing into the curve and crossing Johnson Street
Description:  Train is on the easternmost of two tracks coming out of the former C&NW Monona Yard, used by WSOR in Madison since around 1996. It curves sharply from a southerly heading to northeasterly, and was once part of the C&NW line between Madison and Milwaukee, which now only goes as far as Cottage Grove. At a switch east of Waubesa Street, formerly a diamond crossing known as Junction A, the ex-Milwaukee Road line to Sun Prairie, Marshall, Waterloo and Watertown splits off.

L468 approaching the former location of "Junction B"
Title:  L468 approaching the former location of "Junction B"
Description:  One of several crossings between C&NW and Milwaukee Road trackage in town was once located here. The only one still intact in all four directions is the one on the causeways in the middle of Monona Bay, known as "MX."

The yard at dusk
Title:  The yard at dusk
Description:  The motor in the distance is 3947, which led L469 following T008 into the yard (they probably held for them at Broom Street). I was moments too late to catch them coming in the south end.

Radio controlled WAMX 3947
Title:  Radio controlled WAMX 3947
Description:  I was disappointed to see they've put one of the Control Chief wireless packs, and its obstructing antenna, on one of my favorite units.

Yard job with 3947 and 3872 pulls ahead
Title:  Yard job with 3947 and 3872 pulls ahead
Description:  I was pleased to see the obstructing remote control pack that was on 3947 last weekend has been removed. The power move that had just come into town from the north was waiting on these guys to clear up.

A who's who of WSOR power
Title:  A who's who of WSOR power
Description:  From left, we have 4170, the class unit of what were the original six ex-CRIP SD40-2s acquired by the railroad in the early 2000s (then numbered 4001). It has been recently repainted into a special 40th Anniversary scheme. Then is 4219, ex-CP and the only red and gray unit with a low headlight. 6334 is one of the two Helm lease units (6313 is coupled behind it) than has been on the property since 2017. 4181, trailing the five-unit power move, is ex-BN and one of the last units acquired by the railroad in the Gardner era. 3947, facing off with the lead unit of the power move on the same track, is the first "new" unit brought on to the property under Watco ownership.

The other resident rent-a-wreck, and WAMX 3947
Title:  The other resident rent-a-wreck, and WAMX 3947
Description:  Caught these two paired up on a train in summer 2018. Just visible behind 6313 is WAMX 4187, the former WSOR 4053/"Grow Wisconsin Map" unit.

WAMX 3947 and 4181
Title:  WAMX 3947 and 4181
Description:  Hostlers and or/yard crews were shuffling around the numerous locomotives present in the Janesville roundhouse/coach yard area throughout the afternoon (previously HLCX 6313 was next to 3947). This is how the Watco-era repaints look with the correct, matching doors. Although, 3947's three-ish year old paint job has some visible chipping/peeling on the engineer's side.
