CBQ 9911A "Silver Pilot" ready to depart with another Nebraska Zephyr excursion |
Description: |
Previously, the first and only time I'd seen this unique locomntive (the only survivor out of only 11 E5 A-units built, all specifically for CB&Q's Zephyr trains) was when it along with the Nebraska Zephyr trainset ran a weekend of special excursions from Chicago Union Station to Quincy and back on BNSF's ex-CB&Q Mendota Sub in September, 2012. I caught it heading west at Mendota. |

GoPro shot out the coach window as we meet the Zephyr set at "Johnson Siding" |
Description: |
Johnson Siding, located just west of Seeman Road (the only public grade crossing on the regularly used part of IRM's restored section of Elgin & Belvidere Electric right-of-way) allows for trains to meet. What they really need is a run-around siding on the east end so that trains don't have to shove back to the depot! |

"Silver Pilot" ready to pull out of East Union one last time for the weekend |
Description: |
...but it doesn't have any passengers on board its matching stainless steel varnish this time. It will pull ahead so it can shove into the crossover to the "loop" and head back to the shops, while CNW 411 and its bilevels take a twirl on the "mainline." |
