Pure class |
Description: |
To the great (and pleasant) surprise of many railfans, myself included, Watco painted the ex-CIT former SD45 (previously in modified UP yellow) into their new twist on the red and gray WSOR scheme. |

Ready and waiting |
Description: |
In a few minutes, a crew will fire up this interesting power set (Helm blue lease unit on one end, ex-SD45 in Watco-era WSOR paint on the other), undo the hand brakes, and set to work. |

Old and new WSOR schemes bracket a yellow bonnet |
Description: |
In the "classic" (Gardner era) WSOR scheme, there are narrow red and gray chevron stripes on the short hood, and the thick gray stripe dips into a single fat chevron on the long hood. In the new version of the scheme applied by Watco starting in 2016, the thick gray chevron is moved to the short hood and the gray stripe wraps straight around the end of the long hood. |

WAMX 4223 looks sharp in the autumn evening light as the T3 power rolls out of the fuel ramp |
Description: |
Ever wonder what a WSOR SD45 would look like? Wonder no more! Although, 4223 has been remotored with a 16-cylinder, 3K HP 645 to become the functional equivalent of an SD40-2. The unit spent about a year in service on the WSOR in its ex-CIT modified UP scheme (red/white nose chevrons). I'm fond of that scheme and would have liked to catch it then, but I gotta say this looks better! |

More power sits in the yard on another bright February day |
Description: |
This includes the SD45 carbody, 4223. I%got a tip that it was leading a train from Janesville to Madison the previous afternoon, and spent an hour waiting trackside in the cold wind only to find out that they hadn't left Janesville yet. It arrived in Madison under cover of darkness. |

Former SD45 WAMX 4223 fronts a quartet on an idling eastbound sand train |
Description: |
After seeing that 4171 and 4223 were power for T007 yesterday, both long-hood-forward out of Madison, I had a hunch that 4223 might lead back east the next day. Followed the line and found it sitting here. |

Description: |
4223 is designated SD40-2 by the frame stenciling, although it is an SD45 re-engined to SD40-2 specifications. 4192 on the left is an SD40-2 in an SD40's body, and is designated SD40M-2 by the frame as well as the site. |

In the Anderson, Inc. siding |
Description: |
L465 left two of their cars on the main, then shoved in and coupled the other two to the long string of tank cars already in the Anderson Inc. siding. Not sure how many of them they were actually supposed to pull, since I couldn't stick around to watch the whole switch. |

My reaction to seeing that they put one of the stupid gray doors on 4223, the SD45 carbody. I'm not sure if even 4170 (the new 40th Anniversary unit) makes up for this, since I probably won't catch it leading until it looks as ragged as 4183 does now. |

WAMX 4223 & 4219 |
Description: |
Per usual...the WSOR power I'm particularly interested in catching is parked when I go trackside on the railroad. If I catch a train moving it's almost always the same two (4171 or 4173) or a p***brick SD60M leading. |

Saturday power move T004 fronted by one of the two (so far) repainted 60Ms |
Description: |
While I think the "horizontal" WSOR scheme as exemplified by the trailing three units of this six-pack would have looked great on the SD60Ms, this still looks better than patched UP (although "Wings & Flags" 6027 isn't half bad)! |
