Chasing a train on this sunny fall afternoon seems like a CAPITOL idea!
Title:  Chasing a train on this sunny fall afternoon seems like a CAPITOL idea!
Description:  The weather has turned sharply cooler with long stretches of clouds and rain of late, so this was a well-timed break! 4172 was formerly WSOR 4003.

Rumbling around a curve along Syene Road
Title:  Rumbling around a curve along Syene Road
Description:  The occupants of the numerous residential developments that sprung up in this area during the intervening years were none too thrilled with the re-opening of the rail line. However, trains are not particularly frequent and usually run during the day.

Title:  L469 with a surprising pair of SD40-2s switches sand hoppers in the yard
Description:  Never seen this job with two SDs before. It usually has just one unit, occasionally two Geeps.

L465 with WAMX 4172 long hood forward prepares to depart for the Prairie Sub
Title:  L465 with WAMX 4172 long hood forward prepares to depart for the Prairie Sub
Description:  Road construction has started up and E. Johnson St. is down to one lane in each direction with long queues at each light cycle, so trains cause even more of a traffic headache than usual.

WAMX 4172 crosses the Yahara Parkway bike path as L465 departs
Title:  WAMX 4172 crosses the Yahara Parkway bike path as L465 departs
Description:  When I was a kid, this was a street named Thornton Avenue, and the crossing had C&NW-era gated signals. A little over a decade ago, most of it was narrowed to a bike/pedestrian path and the crossing became passive (signs only). Then a couple of years ago, new gated signals were installed!

WAMX 4172
Title:  WAMX 4172
Description:  Formerly WSOR 4003, one of the original group of six ex-CRIP SD40-2s put into WSOR service (4001-06, re# WAMX 4170-4175). The red and gray paint applied at Horicon in the early 2000s has held up well, considering.

Long End Round the Bend
Title:  Long End Round the Bend
Description:  Based on my experience the previous week, I headed to the yard around 2 PM and sure enough, L468 was getting ready to go again. This time they had a more typical configuration (it seems, when I catch them), a solo SD40-2 long-hood forward. At the front of the train are empty gons for loading with scrap metal at Alter on Sycamore Avenue. Behind them are a cut of aggregate loads for the adjacent Lycon ready-mix plant.

WAMX 4172 and the two veteran Helm sisters on the fuel ramp
Title:  WAMX 4172 and the two veteran Helm sisters on the fuel ramp
Description:  6334 and 6313 have been on the WSOR (6313 apparently disappeared for a while, but came back) since early 2017. I'm still annoyed I never got a good shot of 6305 (MPI paint) during its brief stint in 2019.

WAMX 4172 stands ready to take the five-car local back to Madison after switching the industries
Title:  WAMX 4172 stands ready to take the five-car local back to Madison after switching the industries
Description:  Chanced upon this train on its way out a couple hours earlier while running errands, after I was done figured they might still be here. Sure enough. Not sure why they sit here for up to an hour or more after the train is assembled before heading back.
