L581 power rolls into the yard to grab their train and blast off |
Description: |
CN's ex-Oakway SD60s have proven elusive for me (only caught two leading until this day) ever since they were brought onto the railroad in mid-2012. Nice to catch three of them in one shot, especially considering that in the last couple of years CN has retired most if not all of the GE units of similar age (ex-UP/C&NW C40-8s, ex-BNSF/ATSF C40-8Ws) that they acquired around the same time. |

L581 now southbound out of Wausau Yard after lunch and quite a change in the weather |
Description: |
The switch in the right foreground is an industry spur which is a stub of the C&NW Kelly-Rothschild branch. It crossed over the Milwaukee here and ran parallel to it to the Rothschild mill. |

Crossing the Wisconsin River where it flows out of Lake DuBay |
Description: |
Lake DuBay is a reservoir named for John Baptiste DuBay, a prominent early Wisconsin businessman/fur trader/Indian interpreter. In 1857 he was charged with murder for killing a man in a property dispute. Although acquitted, he was ruined by the ordeal and died at his homestead in Knowlton. This bridge is one of the scenic highlights of the Valley Sub, but never having chased on the line before I was too late to get more than handheld video here on the northbound trip. |
