Back UP!!!
Title:  Back UP!!!
Description:  This is an Operation Lifesaver demonstration train for local media and law enforcement to witness firsthand the kind of idiocy train crews have to deal with on a daily basis. They get a good example here as this truck quickly backs out from under the gate as it comes down on the cab.

Title:  WAMX diesels, two of them displaying the home colors, hold court
Description:  The WSOR remains an interesting place under Watco ownership. The classy red and gray is still king, albeit with new reporting marks and numbers. Then you have the oddities like 4219 and the HLCX units to add variety.

Old and new WSOR schemes bracket a yellow bonnet
Title:  Old and new WSOR schemes bracket a yellow bonnet
Description:  In the "classic" (Gardner era) WSOR scheme, there are narrow red and gray chevron stripes on the short hood, and the thick gray stripe dips into a single fat chevron on the long hood. In the new version of the scheme applied by Watco starting in 2016, the thick gray chevron is moved to the short hood and the gray stripe wraps straight around the end of the long hood.

Four weeks since we were last here...
Title:  Four weeks since we were last here...
Description:  ...another sunny Friday L863 trundles south across the Lake Wisconsin bridge, but the scene is much different. An abrupt transition from much below normal to much above normal temperatures and excessive rainfall resulted in an explosion of greenery in early May.

WAMX 4219 hauls the L863 across the Lake Wisconsin bridge
Title:  WAMX 4219 hauls the L863 across the Lake Wisconsin bridge
Description:  To my surprise, this unit was painted into Watco's new version of the WSOR scheme from their "Yellow Bonnet" scheme sometime in the late fall of 2017. My long-hood-foward curse on this line continues. Any time I catch a single-engine train, it's always LHF no matter which way it's going.

WAMX 4219 poses on the main after arriving at the yard with L863
Title:  WAMX 4219 poses on the main after arriving at the yard with L863
Description:  This is a unique unit on the WSOR, with its headlight mounted on the short hood instead of between the cab numberboards, hinting at its CP heritage (although the bell has been moved to the traditional underframe location). The frame stenciling denotes this unit as an SD40-2, although it was built as an SD40 and retains the shorter frame and Flexicoil trucks (rather like the ex-C&O former 407X series, which are designated SD40M-2). It is also the only unit with a red goose logo on the short hood, placed in the middle of the thick gray chevron (presumably due to the headlight). The other units painted to WSOR colors by Watco have a white logo placed in the red area near the top of the hood. The locomotive was painted in this scheme sometime in the late fall of 2017, after spending over a year roaming WSOR territory in the Watco "Yellow Bonnet" scheme. There was also a four-axle unit on the system in that scheme, although I don't know the number as I never saw it.

L468 crew takes 3947 to grab their train while 4219 sleeps away a fine fall afternoon
Title:  L468 crew takes 3947 to grab their train while 4219 sleeps away a fine fall afternoon
Description:  In the foreground, a track gang is giving the "main" line (technically part of the Reedsburg Sub) some TLC. Both of these locomotives are Watco-era additions to the red and gray fleet (all running under WAMX reporting marks, not WSOR, since toward the end of 2016). 3947 appeared in spring 2014 in ugly patched UP yellow, and was repainted in spring 2017. 4219 arrived sometime in 2016 in the generic Watco black with yellow accents, and was repainted sometime in late 2017 or early 2018. It is an ex-CP SD40 and the only unit on the railroad with the headlight mounted on the short hood.

Sunday afternoon goose gathering
Title:  Sunday afternoon goose gathering
Description:  3928 (35th Anniversary GP39-2) is long-hood forward at the front of a group of four on the fuel ramp, blue guest 6334 is ex-SP and the longest-tenured of the Helm rentals on the property (along with 6313), 4219 is ex-CP and the only red and gray unit with the headlight mounted on the short hood, and 4223 behind is the sole SD45 carbody in the scheme.

WAMX 4175 behind 6334
Title:  WAMX 4175 behind 6334
Description:  This unit ran as WSOR 4006 in the Gardner era, and was one of the initial group of six ex-Rock Island SD40-2s acquired by the railroad in the early 2000s. Still no luck for me in finding sister 4170 (formerly WSOR 4001) in its new 40th Anniversary scheme.

An interesting hodgepodge of power in front of the roundhouse
Title:  An interesting hodgepodge of power in front of the roundhouse
Description:  The Helm sisters would seem to be shop queens, since I always see them here of late. Coupled to them is 4192, and also in the shot are 4197 (latest "standard" red and gray repaint) and 4219 (ex-CP, only one with a low headlight).

A who's who of WSOR power
Title:  A who's who of WSOR power
Description:  From left, we have 4170, the class unit of what were the original six ex-CRIP SD40-2s acquired by the railroad in the early 2000s (then numbered 4001). It has been recently repainted into a special 40th Anniversary scheme. Then is 4219, ex-CP and the only red and gray unit with a low headlight. 6334 is one of the two Helm lease units (6313 is coupled behind it) than has been on the property since 2017. 4181, trailing the five-unit power move, is ex-BN and one of the last units acquired by the railroad in the Gardner era. 3947, facing off with the lead unit of the power move on the same track, is the first "new" unit brought on to the property under Watco ownership.

T006 is three units and one tank car, T004R is two units and one tank car
Title:  T006 is three units and one tank car, T004R is two units and one tank car
Description:  T6 (in radio shorthand), the train from Madison, will set out their tank car on the UP interchange before calling it a day. T4R is switching the refrigerated argon tankers that are transloaded in the old coach yard. I found this odd because their usual task is to get on board the train from Horicon (T4) and take it on to Chicago. What they did next was even stranger...

Golden light tease
Title:  Golden light tease
Description:  A train calling themselves T4R was working the yard, and I assumed they'd eventually do what they usually do and take the Horicon train out toward Chicago, so I sat along that line for a while. Eventually I pieced together what they were actually doing, which was taking the local to Monroe! Unfortunately, by the time I realized this they'd beaten me to the crossing on Rockport Road, so I hauled @$$ to get ahead of them only for them to stop short of Hanover Road to wait for MoW of some sort to give back the track. Oh well, my long-hood-forward curse with 4219 (unique on the WSOR for its CP-style headlight mounted on the short hood, and red goose logo below it) held firm anyway.
